01 · Context

The problem

Trip information tends to be scattered across bookings, notes, maps, expense records and conversations. During a trip, that fragmentation makes it harder to see the plan, find details and keep track of spending.

02 · Responsibility

End-to-end product building

Kavindu defined Journi’s product direction and MVP, designed the core experience and built its React and Firebase foundation, using real travel planning and use to identify friction and guide iteration.

03 · Decisions

Design for planning and for being on the move

Journi brings itinerary planning and trip information into a shared workspace, with an emphasis on clear navigation, useful location context and quick interactions on mobile. The goal is to make the product valuable before departure and throughout the trip.

04 · Execution

What Kavindu built

  • A day-by-day itinerary of flights, stays, transfers and plans, each shown in the local time of its place.
  • Weather for each day: a forecast near the date, or what is typical for that time of year.
  • Expenses in each trip’s own currencies, split between travellers, with settle-up.
  • Sharing by invite link, with per-item visibility and a conversation feed for the group.
  • Documents, packing lists with suggestions, and a review after the trip.
  • A map of the trip’s stops that opens routes in the traveller’s maps app.
  • A responsive React and Firebase application, also packaged with Capacitor for iOS and Android builds.

05 · Impact

Where it stands

Journi is listed as a live independent product. Its development demonstrates an iterative approach to product building: establish the core experience, use it in real contexts, identify friction and refine the product around those needs.
